Rocks N' Drops

This work is a critique of Yves Klein, a brilliant artist who (mis)used women as paint brushes. I collected a group of rocks and pebbles from the beach. Mixing up an approximation of Klein Blue (he appropriated several colors, and in so doing owned them), I painted the rocks, affixed small twine harnesses to them, and while the paint was wet, dragged them across large pieces of paper on the floor. A few of these activities were collaborative; one was made with an artist friend, and another with the participation of my grandchildren. Yves Rocks.

For the companion piece, Yves Drops, that alludes to his faux free fall from a window,  I rolled the pebbles in the paint, held them as high above my head as possible, and dropped them to the paper. Splat.
