Black

Many of the pieces in this series incorporate wheels and casters. I wanted the sculptures to be autonomous, to move by themselves; an impossibility. But I could push them around and not have to do so much heavy lifting. Some of the larger pieces incorporated patterns from earlier work, the “Morristown Red Series”, that drew on the lattice designs found under 19th century houses in Vermont. Other sculptures in Black referred to the figure: one, an appreciation of a favorite character from my childhood, Olive Oyl, and another an homage to Brancusi (Rocket). Black. The chicest, coolest color. The color that hides, molds, and also expresses darkness or death: the perfect color.
