For Beauty's Sake

In late 1989 I began a long-term project, For Beauty’s Sake, a series that examined the then just burgeoning cultural phenomenon of cosmetic surgery. The sculptures were created in a two-part before and after format. While they look abstract or calligraphic, when one reads the titles the images in the sculpture suddenly shift: you see clearly what the sculptures represent. They are no longer formally removed from the reality of the procedures they describe.
