The Wet Nurse
Considered the second oldest profession for women, the wet nurse has been virtually erased from history, though through their ministrations, they saved the lives of millions of infants throughout the world. I continue to seek a platform that will embrace and explain this remarkable profession, and bring the wealth of information I’ve uncovered about the subject to a wider audience. To date, I have created a series of sculptures and works on paper that address the subject and have delivered two lectures that I am working to expand into a more comprehensive text.
A group of “venerable” men devised and implemented a series of tests to assess the quality of a wet nurse’s milk. The tests were outrageous. The drawings in this series reflect that madness.
